The song picked up key adds this week in Los Angeles, Washington DC and Denver, climbing to #18* on the Hot AC chart.  Sales have climbed at least 15% each week for the past 5 weeks, pushing overall single sales past 400,000 downloads.  “Jar Of Hearts” jumped from 96 to 76 on the Hot 100 chart this week, rallied by new airplay and 32,000 track downloads.

Originally formed in 1997 by Dan Young and Val Hunting (Auckland, New Zealand), the band just finished their follow up album in March 2011.

Welsford brought them together with Grammy nominated drummer AAron Rossi (Prong, Ministry, John 5) to record in Los Angeles and ultimately go on Tour with Killing Joke kicking of in Edmonton May 22nd.

After two years in the works, a documentary about Wellington hard rock legends Shihad finally has the green light. Dominion Post movie reviewer Graeme Tuckett is three or four weeks into pre-production on the project, funded by the Film Commission and private sources.

A film-maker as well as a film critic, Tuckett began the film to celebrate Shihad’s 21st year as a group in 2009, but the scope quickly grew. “It will have heaps of live concert stuff as well as being a full-on documentary with a full background on the band.”

The film will include footage from London, Berlin, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand. One concert will be shot with up to 10 cameras, providing a close-up view for fans.
“It will be the only opportunity for anybody who’s never been to a Shihad gig to experience what it’s really like.”Shihad was started in 1988 at Wellington High School by singer and guitarist Jon Toogood and drummer Tom Larkin. Tuckett said the band had a special place in Wellingtonians’ hearts.
“It’s definitely a case of local band made good.”

It was about time Shihad received cinematic recognition: “They’re the only New Zealand hard-rock band who’s been around for anything like this amount of time. They deserve it. “They have never fallen back on the whole greatest-hits thing, and they have seen off everybody else.” Tuckett has also made the documentary Barry Barclay: The Camera on The Shore, about Wairarapa writer and film-maker Barry Barclay, as well as eight other films on New Zealand artists and musicians. Wellingtonians Grant Roa and Laurence Alexander are producing the Shihad film, with award-winning cinematographer Simon Baumfield doing the shooting. Shihad release their eighth studio album, Ignite, later this month, with an initial six-date Australian tour to follow in November. The tour follows Killjoy and The General Electric album concerts around New Zealand in July and August of this year.

According to ‘hitpredictor.com’, “Jar of Hearts” has since sold more than 100,000 downloads according to Nielsen SoundScan, putting it at No. 25 on the Billboard singles sales chart. Not too shabby for an undiscovered musician serving coffee! The track also hit No. 13 on iTunes and No. 10 on Amazon’s digital singles chart.

Grammy and TEC award-winning producer/engineer Ed Cherney is especially known for his work with a wide array of different artists, among them Iggy Pop, Bob Seger, Bette Midler, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Jann Arden, Jackson Browne, Buddy Guy, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones, to name just a few.

Al Schmitt has engineered albums for Henry Mancini, Cal Tjader, Al Hirt, Rosemary Clooney, Liverpool Five, The Astronauts, Sam Cooke “Bring It on Home to Me” “Cupid” “Another Saturday Night” in 1961. He produced albums for Jefferson Airplane, Eddie Fisher, Glenn Yarborough, Jackson Browne and Neil Young.  Al engineering both Frank Sinatra Duets albums, Ray Charles‘ Genius Loves Company and some of Diana Krall‘s albums. Much of his work in the last few years has been with producer Tommy LiPuma. During his career Al has recorded and mixed more than 150 gold and platinum albums and was inducted into the TEC Awards Hall of Fame in 1997.
